First Date - Picnic at the Beach

To me the perfect first date would be going to the beach with a picnic basket and a blanket. The cost would be minimal as the beach is free and whatever you decided to pack in the basket for dinner would be what you would have to pay. Probably $30 max for food. Lay a blanket out on the sand and enjoy the sound of the ocean and the picnic. Then as the sun sets you can watch it and enjoy the relaxing setting while getting to know each other.

My husband took me to the airport at night for our first date. We blasted the radio and sat on the hood of the car watching the flights come in and out. We did that for hours. I loved every minute of it. It was romantic, the lights were beautiful, and it was free!!

First Date - Picnic in the Mountains.

I think a great first date would be a nice picnic in the mountains followed by a short hike. it would provide an opportunity to chat while eating and light conversation during the hike. If you are athletic, it would go a long way towards finding out if this potential mate enjoys the same activities.

First Date - Keep it Spontaneous.

An ideal first date for me would be something out of the norm, dinner and a movie is definitely not acceptable. Someone has to be creative and somewhat spontaneous to catch my attention. If I know what we will be doing for the evening starting off is okay, but by the end of the night, being completely surprised by a walk downtown to play in the fountains in the park would definitely get you another phone call. If the date doesn't cost anything (even if the guy is paying) it's even better. It shows he can be creative and sweet and he doesn't need money to make me happy. And a first date should ALWAYS end, but if it ends late and I still have a smile on my face, that means I enjoy spending time with you. Definitely a plus.

First Date - Walking and Talking at an Exhibit.

I would find out an interest of my date and take them to a exhibit of what they enjoy. It could be a museum, craft fair, county fair, art exhibit or any thing of that nature. They generally cost between $5 to $25 to get in, though some are free. Then spend the afternoon walking around and talking about what we see. It would be a good way to learn about the other person and shows you are interested in what they are about.

I think a great idea is to see a play at the local community theater (preferably comedy or romantic comedy) it's a great way to get the other person laughing and gives you something to discuss later in the evening.
